Adiantum refers to stunning species of fern that are commonly called ‘Maidenhair Ferns’. This species gets there name from old Greek and means ‘unsettled’, this describes the fronds ability to shed water off its leaves without becoming wet itself. This genus has approximately 250 different plants and around only 9 are native to Australia. These ferns are terrestrial with rhizomes that can vary greatly in appearance between varieties, some are short and tufted others are long and branching. Their fronds or leaves can be small and ruffled like lace or flat and circular.

Being a fern this plant naturally helps purify the air, not only is this plant beautiful to look at but it’s also helping clean the air you breathe! These plants are perfect for indoor displays, patios and garden beds and look amazing growing in a pot or hanging basket.

☀️This plant requires bright, indirect light but harsh direct sunlight needs to be avoided as this can scorch the leaves.

💧Water when the top 2-3cm of soil dries out. It’s best not to let these plants fully dry out, you’ll notice the fronds start to drop and the leaves can begin to wilt and brown. We chose to bottom water ferns and keep them in trays of water as they dry out quickly in sunny QLD.

〰️These plants do prefer slightly higher humidity levels as they are tropical/sub-tropical plants but nothing that requires too much specialised care. If you notice crispy, brown looking marks on the leaves this is typically a sign of not enough humidity. You can create more humidity by clustering plants together and misting the leaves.

🌡️These plants are very adaptable in regards to temperature, standard room temperatures between 18-24°C are perfect.

🍴Use a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).

✂️ Most propagation is achieved by dividing large clumps or from spores.

🪴Repot every in a well draining potting mix as required. These plants do prefer to be slightly root bound. The roots are very fine and har like so try to be very careful with the roots are ball and reduce as much disturbance as possible.

(Each living plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, colour, or shape depending on the season. Flowering plants are sent when available. You will receive a bare rooted plant similar to the ones in the pictures provided.)
